Adarsha Vidyapeeth School

A warm welcome to Adarsha Vidyapeeth Bholaguri (AVB). In 1983, when visionary educationist Late Thaneshwar Borah decided to start an Assamese medium ‘private’ school for the children of this rural, char and tea plantation region, the idea appeared outrageous. In order to understand the audacity of starting this project, one needs to understand the existing conditions in the wider Bholaguri area at that time. There was one major secondary school serving an area of about 10 kilometre radius. Poverty was widespread reflecting the general condition of our state at that time. School dropouts were routine, and not even 10% of the tea garden children were attending school. Most village children had to work in the fields before and after school. If the traditional wisdom requires a paying clientele, and aspiring parents for a private school, these were clearly non-existent. Notwithstanding these conditions, Adarsha Vidyapeeth started with 6 pupils with no sponsors, resources, assets, or a paying clientele. Today, ABV with 650 pupils is a beacon of excellence and hope for the communities. We have defied the traditional logic of a private school existence by being the change agent. So, what are the ingredients for our successful journey, and what are our guiding principles?

A vision with Conviction: AVB was envisioned as a centre where rural children can nurture their potential, excel and take their place as good citizens of the country. This vision of our founder was a powerful force that propelled him and the few individuals he got together toward the goal and the outcome. The goal was education without corruption and contamination, their sole focus were the children. This vision had a deeply held belief in what can be achieved, driving action and perseverance in the face of insurmountable challenges.

Communities are Our Partners: AVB’s vision combined clarity of purpose with unwavering determination. This clarity enables us to communicate our vision effectively, drawing the local communities, growing together, igniting their commitment and inspiring them to rally behind us. In the process we have become a driving force for change and progress.

Affordable and Quality education: We are a non profit organisation offering equal opportunities. Our approaches make it possible to create a more inclusive and accessible education that provides the highest quality learning opportunities for our children. We also ensure that we are a responsible organisation and care for those children in our communities that are underprivileged.

Nurture Potential and Cultivate Excellence: At AVB, we believe in nurturing and supporting potentials underscoring the importance of fostering future growth. It emphasises the role of encouragement, guidance and support in helping pupils reach their full capabilities. Cultivating excellence involves setting high standards, encouraging continuous improvement, and instilling a mindset of striving for greatness in everything one does. Our dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence is reflected in our consistent performance at the top over the decades.

Breaking the Myth of Rural Urban Intellectual Divide: There used to be and still is a strand of thought that there is a significant disparity in intelligence, knowledge, or cultural sophistication between people living in the rural areas and those in urban areas. We are the living proof that this notion is flawed and oversimplified. It's not just our performance at HSLC or AHSEC, but our Alumeis occupy important positions across the country as doctors, engineers, administrators, and other professionals.

Adarsha Vidyapeeth, Bholaguri is a response to the dreams and aspirations of our rural communities. Education is not just a business for us, its ideology and a mission-driven endeavour. By affirming this we commit to uphold the values of excellence, equity and ethical conduct in all aspects of a pupil’s life. We recognise the transformative force of education to shape individuals, and societies and create responsible citizens
